Principal Data Engineer – SPARK – Remote first Ireland Only

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a growing data engineering team as their most senior Spark specialist.

This role is ideal for someone with deep, hands-on Apache Spark expertise who enjoys solving complex distributed data challenges and working across a modern Lakehouse environment.

Spark is the core processing engine. Expert-level Spark experience is non-negotiable.

You will design, build and optimise large-scale distributed data pipelines, working across multiple source systems and contributing to architecture decisions in a cloud-native ecosystem.

You’ll work with technologies including Databricks, Delta Lake and cloud platforms, delivering both batch and real-time streaming solutions.

This is a hands-on senior role with responsibility for mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and setting strong engineering standards.

Required:

• 8+ years’ experience in Data or Software Engineering
• Deep, hands-on Apache Spark expertise (performance tuning, optimisation, distributed workloads)
• Experience with both batch and streaming data (streaming essential)
• Strong Python and SQL
• Experience with Azure, AWS or GCP
• Familiarity with Kafka, Event Hub or similar
• Experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines
• Must be based in Ireland

Salary: €95,000 – €100,000 DOE
