12 reasons to consider Ireland

Ireland is home to a highly educated workforce, with a strong focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. Irish universities produce a steady flow of skilled IT graduates, well-versed in cutting-edge technologies like AI, cybersecurity, data science, and software engineering.

Ireland’s strategic location in Europe, combined with its time zone (GMT), enables easier collaboration with both the U.S. and European markets. The time difference is manageable (5-8 hours), allowing for overlapping working hours.
Ireland has established itself as a European tech hub, attracting global IT giants like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon as well as a plethora of Tech startup and scale up organisations across the county. This has led to a thriving ecosystem for IT talent, with ample opportunities for professional growth, upskilling, and industry exposure.

As an English-speaking country and the only within the EU, communication barriers are minimal between U.S. companies and Irish employees. This eliminates the need for translation, training in new languages, and miscommunication, leading to better collaboration and efficiency.

Ireland offers a highly cost-effective solution for companies looking to expand their technical teams. Base salaries for equivalent skill sets are 25% to 53% lower than in the US. Additionally, payroll costs, healthcare, and other employee benefits are significantly reduced, providing businesses with considerable savings.

The Irish government actively supports the IT sector through initiatives like Enterprise Ireland and the IDA. These organizations provide grants, R&D funding, and other resources to help tech companies grow and innovate.  For more information: https://www.idaireland.com/

Ireland is part of the European Union, giving U.S. companies access to the wider EU market of over 450 million consumers. IT professionals in Ireland often have experience working with companies across Europe, providing valuable insights into EU regulations and business practices. Furthermore due to the thriving tech sector, Ireland has attracted talent from all over Europe which provides continued strength to the technical talent available.

Ireland has developed a strong remote work culture, supported by excellent internet infrastructure and government incentives for remote work. Irish IT professionals are well-versed in working in hybrid or fully remote setups.

Ireland’s corporate tax rate of 12.5% is one of the lowest in the developed world, making it highly attractive to US companies seeking to minimize tax liabilities. The country also offers a favorable tax regime for intellectual property and R&D activities, further enhancing its appeal.

Ireland is at the forefront of emerging technologies due to its vibrant tech ecosystem and strategic investments. As a global hub for major tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Intel, it leads in areas such as AI, blockchain, and cybersecurity. Ireland’s world-class research institutions, including ADAPT and CeADAR, drive innovation through cutting-edge projects and collaborations with industry. The government actively supports R&D with generous tax incentives and initiatives like the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund. Additionally, Ireland’s skilled workforce, bolstered by strong STEM education, ensures a steady pipeline of talent.

Not Just Dublin – While Dublin is the primary tech hub in Ireland, it can be expensive for establishing technical teams. There are numerous locations that  can be considered, offering a mix of affordability and access to skilled talent:

  • Cork: Known as a growing tech hub, Cork is home to several multinational companies like Apple and offers lower living and operational costs compared to Dublin.
  • Galway: A vibrant city with a strong talent pool from local universities and a growing tech scene, particularly in med-tech and software development.
  • Limerick: With a focus on tech and manufacturing industries, Limerick offers competitive office rental costs and access to graduates from the University of Limerick.
  • Waterford: Known for its cost-effectiveness, Waterford is emerging as a tech-friendly location, supported by institutions like the South East Technological University (SETU).
Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) directives are thriving within Ireland’s tech sector due to several key factors:

  • Global Talent Pool: As a hub for multinational companies, Ireland attracts a diverse workforce from across the globe. Its open immigration policies for skilled workers ensure a rich mix of cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Progressive Policies: Irish companies and government initiatives actively promote D&I through programs like the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s Equality Strategy and targeted funding for underrepresented groups in STEM.
  • Supportive Ecosystem: Industry organizations like Diversity in Tech Ireland advocate for inclusive hiring practices and provide resources to foster a more equitable workplace.
  • Education and Outreach: Ireland’s focus on encouraging women and underrepresented groups to enter STEM fields, supported by programs like Women in Technology and Girls Hack Ireland, has improved representation in tech roles.
  • Cultural Shift: A growing emphasis on workplace inclusivity, driven by younger, socially conscious employees and companies’ commitments to ESG goals, enhances the focus on D&I.

One Size Can Fit All

TechHeads has a track record of providing exemplary Recruitment Services to US organisations of all sizes with phenomenal results. Check out the full case studies along with references from Senior Management that outlines their experience with TechHeads.

General Motors

TechHeads was engaged when 3 Senior Managers had been to establish and grow a Centre of Excellence for General Motors Global IT Team in Ireland.

Since 2012 TechHeads has been the only external agency that has worked with GM Ireland for both Permanent and Contract Resources.

In that time the company has grown to 550+ people across a diverse range of Teams across all aspects of their business. TechHeads has sourced Talent from Senior Management to Junior Developers for legacy projects right up to cutting edge AI/ML teams working on the latest innovations in autonomous driving.

Most recently TechHeads was engaged to provide a team (12) of highly skilled Contractors as part of a Multi-year engagement to assist on a critical software remediation program. The program of work began in early 2022 and all resources have been secured until December 2024.

Transact Campus

TechHeads was engaged in March 2020 to grow the newly established Software Development Centre for Transact Campus with a staffing target of 30+ people in Year 1.

Despite COVID hitting at the start of the Staffing Ramp Plan and continuing throughout the year we achieved the numbers originally set out. TechHeads was hiring candidates on a Remote basis with the understanding that there would be an onsite requirement once restrictions eventually lifted.

Originally TechHeads was part of an agreement with 2 agencies (the other being a traditional high street recruiter) where we exceeded our counterparts in all ratios of CVs Submitted vs Interview, Interview to offer and offer to acceptance which resulted in the disengagement of the other Recruitment agency.

Cost

Permanent Recruitment
